LINK Project Proposal
My internship will be taking place at X-Rock 105.3 Radio Station. They play rock music ranging from the 60s to the 90s. My mentor will be Jamie Osborn, who is a radio host at the radio station. I hope he is able to teach me the workings of the radio business and what it’s like to be a radio host. This can help me determine what I want to do when I’m older.
My goals for this internship is to learn about the radio business. I also have personal goals that I will be using the extra free time during LINK to achieve. I’m going to be using the time to learn the guitar and to catch up on some online courses that I have been falling behind on.
While I’m not entirely sure of what my project is going to be, it’s probably going to have something to do with me co-hosting a radio show with my mentor. I may record a radio show and use that as my project. This supports the organization because their entire business is radio shows. It allows me to contribute to the local community by playing rockin’ music.
In order to prepare for my internship, I’m going to download and listen to a lot of classic rock albums.
Before I actually talk on a radio show, I will be taking notes and observing how Jamie does his thing for the first couple of days. After that, I hope to be a regular part of the show.
Multiple challenges have come up in the process of getting my internship set up. Originally, I was going to intern at a radio station down in New Orleans, Louisiana. The internship fell right into my life and I was super excited for it. Unfortunately, it was too good to be true. Due to some unforeseen complications, my internship there fell through. This left me with about two months to figure out what I was going to do.
After days of searching and endless emails sent, I finally found an internship at X-Rock. I was surprised how easy it was to get one there, and how nice and easy-going the people were. They were very excited to have me there the moment I walked in their door.
I’m very excited to begin my LINK Internship. I find it so incredible that I get an oppurtunity to go out into the real world for three weeks and learn about something that I’m interested in, not something that I’m required to learn. It makes me happy that I go to a school like Animas High School. I can’t wait to get on the radio and to see how it all works, and to be able to choose the music that goes out. Overall, I think that this is going to be a very worthwhile and engaging experience for me.
